At LR Dance, we strive to fulfil the individual needs of each student. If a career in dance, either as a performer or as a teacher is of interest to your child, or if you are looking for dance classes for fitness, fun, self-confidence and a sense of personal achievement, at LR Dance, we ensure a strong technical foundation in a caring and supportive environment which will support your child’s enthusiasm.
Classes are held throughout the ‘State School’ term including pupil free days to ensure that those students attending classes on Mondays are not disadvantaged. Classes are not held on Australia Day, Anzac Day or the Easter holiday break. Classes are held on all other public holidays.
An enrolment fee is payable at the beginning of each year. This fee covers insurance and administration costs. Enrolment Fees must accompany an Enrolment Form. Second and subsequent children pay a reduced fee.
FEES AND ACCOUNTING
Accounts are emailed to all parents by Sandi Bradshaw who is the School Administrator. All enquiries regarding fees should be directed to Sandi. Fees are paid on a term basis and are due within 2 weeks of issue.
A 10% Late Fee applies for accounts received after this time. Accounts are issued prior to each new term. There will be no refund for students who do not complete the term or who do not attend classes. Make up classes are available.
Second and subsequent siblings receive a 10% discount when 2 children attend 2 or more classes per week.
PARENTS WATCHING WEEK
The last week of each term will be set aside as Parent Watching Week. All classes will be open so that parents can share the pleasure of observing the students in the class room. It is essential to recognize that this is still a learning time for the students and above all, their class time must not be disrupted. It is requested that younger children are not bought into the class. Mobile phones must be turned off and conversation between parents in the classroom is discouraged as it is distracting to both teacher and students.
Each year, students are provided with the opportunity to participate in R.A.D. (Royal Academy of Dance) Ballet Exams. Exams offer students a sense of challenge and achievement, and are necessary later on in life should a student wish to pursue a teaching career in dance. Exams also provide feedback for parents on their child’s progress.
Students who enter exams must be dedicated to improving their technique and attend classes regularly. Exam dates and fees are set by an external body. Parents will receive notification regarding exams by the end of Term 1.
END OF YEAR CONCERT
Each year the students participate in a concert, which will celebrate and showcase the year’s work. It is a fun and exciting event for all the students. Students will perform one dance item for each class attended. Although not compulsory, it is recommended that all students are exposed to this on-stage experience, to gain confidence and maturity as dancers and to appreciate that all the hard technical training has a purposeful outcome.
Students will be required to demonstrate a suitable level of technique to be eligible for Extension Programs. Minimum Requirements: Ballet Extension students must attend 2 Ballet classes per week; Jazz Extension students (8 years and Under) must attend 1 Technical Jazz class plus one Ballet lesson per week. From 10 and Unders upwards, all Extension Group students must attend a minimum of 2 ballet lessons per week. To maintain the student’s position in Extension Groups, it is necessary to attend all classes regularly and be committed to the group and to their involvement in training and Eisteddfod rehearsals and performances
SOLO AND PRIVATE CLASSES
These classes are available for Extension Group students who are interested in solos performances in any dance style. However a minimum technical standard would be required. Private technique classes are also available to any other student who may wish to extend their technique. Please discuss this with Lenore. A separate fee rate applies.
A basket for lost property is located at the Studio. Please check regularly as at the end of each term, lost property will be passed to a collection depot. Named items will be returned to students and dancewear held in storage.
RULES OF CONDUCT AND ATTENDANCE
Students must be punctual to classes. Each class is carefully planned and late arrivals distract other students and could mean that warming up exercises are missed. Always inform the teachers if a class is going to be missed. Students receiving Private Tuition must notify the Principal 24 hours in advance if unable to attend.
Attention to detail is a part of a dancer’s training. In order to prepare for the scrutiny of a performance, a dancer is also required to take care and pride in their presentation for classes. For all classes, hair must be tidily secured in a bun. Loose untidy hair is distracting and inappropriate.
Appropriate Dance wear is available from suppliers Dance Desire, Ashmore, Dancer’s Emporium, Tugan, and Park Avenue, Burleigh.
